Velvet Landing at Mo Space, Standard Fiction at Pablo

Last Saturday I went to the opening of two art exhibitions at The Fort -- Lena Cobangbang's Velvet Landing at Mo_ Gallery and Bea Camacho's Standard Fiction.

Velvet Landing was actually the first Lena show I've seen. I've seen her a couple of times at openings already but on my way to Mo_ Gallery, I realized that I don't really know what her works look like and what to expect (I really don’t know my local artists, because I used to just look at works without looking at the labels… and I have a short term memory loss). I got surprised when I got there and saw carpets in the gallery -- one with a clown struck down by a lightning, one rolled carpet with grass and a tree, one with scattered cut stuff (im guessing it's rubberfoam) forming the word PANTERA on it, another one with a burnt pattern of an animal rug and the main work, a stuffed panther camouflaged with rubberfoam (again, I am not sure) cutouts. The panther and the rolled carpet was sort of like diorama influenced and was pretty interesting. When I saw the burnt rug, I suddenly remembered "ah, that's why she was looking for a small torch in FB".

Standard Fiction was also the first solo show of Bea's I have seen, and at the same night too. It was at Pablo Gallery , just a few blocks away from high street. I really love… oh my gosh I am in love with her Chandelier piece. Her framed cloths with pictures of a deconstructed house (I'm guessing, digitally printed on it) reminded me of Gordon Matta-Clark, one of my favorites.

!!!

Velvet Landing will run until Sept. 26, 2010 at Mo_ Gallery, Bonifacio High Street, Fort, Taguig
Standard Fiction will run until Oct. 06, 2010 at Pablo Gallery, Fort, Taguig
